Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change
Author : Stephen R. Covey
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Thought-provoking

This is a thought-provoking book based on clear principles that can guide us in managing our time. There are many wise ideas contained in the pages of this book.

As an example, I learned that efficiency is something that is appropriate with tasks but with people especially family members you can't be efficient and slot people in as you think best. Instead it is about effectiveness. So you have to give family members the time they need.

Another gem is that you can't balance life at times you have to prioritize according to your values. So a mother (or father) who wants to stay home with their kids when they are young, may need to focus on home instead of career until the kids are older. The goal of balance would be inappropriate for that situation. Mr. Covey also makes it clear the importance of following the compass instead of the clock.

This is an excellent book that people need to read because it gives business direction but from a higher perspective that you rarely find in most literature out there. I also recommend the "8th Insight" also by Covey, "Your Erroneous Zones" by Wayne Dyer, "Nexus" by Deborah Morrison Arvind Singh and "Lateral Thinking" by Edward De Bono. All these book offer unique insights.

Title : Born to Win: Transactional Analysis with Gestalt Experiments
Author : Muriel James
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Well it's a classic really

Great summary of games players and how people interact, with clear examples, structured approach etc. Far better than Games People Play or I'm OK you're OK. Necesary reading for everyone who has a family or friends or job. One star docked for age, but it's stood the test of time pretty well.

Title : Be Your Own Life Coach: How to Take Control of Your Life and Achieve Your Wildest Dreams
Author : Fiona Harrold
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : A life-changing book

Fiona's fabulous book has confirmed in my mind that I want to become a life-coach. Her style is easy to read, no-nonsense and very persuasive. She has inspired me to change my attitude on many topics and since I have read the book I have become 100% happier with myself and my life. She makes you realise that,if you're unhappy, the person that is responsible for changing that is YOU. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to do something different in their lives but can't quite muster up the courage to achieve it. I would also highly recommend it to budding life-coaches like myself.

Title : E-myth Mastery: The Seven Essential Disciplines for Building a World Class Company
Author : Michael Gerber
Rating : 1 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Heavy going, heavy on psychobabble

If you're into overwrought emotional prose this ones for you.

I quote "without the passion of the soul, the mind creates an endless stream of empty suits, dreams without heart..."

or this gem

"a part of me is just afraid. that part of me feels like i'm jumping off a cliff, but in some strange way I also trust that I'll fall into something soft and safe"

After about 100 pages it starts turning into a business book again, but after wading through the cod philosphies at the start of the book I was actually angry at the author for putting me through some really badly written stuff, concerning a lady called sarah from 'all about pies' who'd lost her passion, apparently. I knew how she felt by this point in the book.

If you buy it read the real stuff at the end of the book, but really, don't encourage him.

To misquote the book I certainly felt like jumping off a cliff at times.
If only he'd have just stuck to the business. Why does everyone have to be a cod psychologist these days? Nuff said'

Title : Sticky Wisdom
Author : Dave Allan
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : a great read

Written clearly, without patronising the reader. A book created by masters of innovation. Good techniques and tips as well as really interesting applicable cultural perspectives for an organisation wanting to move it's product development strategy forward.

This book is well worth 8 quid as it will help shape/structure your thinking on being innovative, as well as providing you with a 'toolkit' of language to encourage supportive innovative behaviours in others, who are determined to think too critically about fledgling ideas before they have had a chance to grow into potential winners.

Whatif also was 2004/5 best company to work for in the UK which in itself gives weight to the ideas in this book.

Title : The Life You Were Born to Live: Finding Your Life Purpose
Author : Dan Millman
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : When the time comes, you'll see exactly how accurate it is!!

This book was recommended recently by a friend in Sidney, I borrowed it and couldn't put it down. Somehow it was a best seller over there and it took me a couple of weeks to get hold off my own copy!

I can just say that I completely agree with the statements of "A reader from Nashville", "Joy", "Leila" "A reader from New Zealand"!

Although I'm a sceptic mostly, I'm a firm believer that numerology is of the - if not the - most accurate way of describing the path etc. of a person. Dan M.'s book is based on the life path aspects of numerology with some differences, such as "adding" "10" "12" numbers. It is still uncanny how accurate it was in depicting my number (I couldn't say if it's exactly as accurate as numerology, or even slightly more so!) and I'm convinced that "J. Balbirnie" will see exactly what I mean when the time comes. Dan M. says himself at the end of his book, that one reader wrote to him, first thinking his book was rubbish, it however ended up making a lot of sense to him a few years down the path!

Excellent reading, I highly recommend it!
