Title : Lessons in Mastery: 5 Spoken Word Cds, 6 Hours
Author : Anthony Robbins
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Lessons in Mastery

The concepts included in these audio CD's are similar to those explored in the book 'Awaken the Giant Within' A reasonable buy if you need motivation, or to explore different concepts in gaining overall satisfaction with life, job etc. An additional advantage is that this CD set takes less time to cover than reading the book.

Title : Psycho-cybernetics
Author : Maxwell Maltz
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Astonishingly practical and enlightening

This book is profoundly good. Do not let the artificial sounding title put you off - it contains chapter after chapter of elegantly written guidance for living. It is evident in the writing that this is the result of not years but decades of observation by Maltz. The chapter on negative emotional habits is in itself worth the money. I bought the book to try to resolve 11 years of tension headaches. After reading teh first chapter, I stopped reading in order to try out some ideas. The headaches are improving, but almost as importantly, I have learnt so much more about myself. Not speculative, extrapolated ideas of the author, but the result of close observations of patients who were councelled before cosmetic surgery. In many cases, the intended facial surgery was canceled, to be replaced by surgery of attitude.
I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Title : Self-esteem Affirmations: Motivational Affirmations for Building Confidence and Recognizing Self-worth
Author : Louise L. Hay
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : well done

The subliminals are quite good, what I would expect of such a learned author. I tried this CD to see what sort of affirmation to use when feeling less confidant than normal, which isn't very often. I just needed something to bolster me for when dealing with those in authority, and this sure did work, thanks.

Title : Sticky Wisdom
Author : Dave Allan
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : In the end, all businesses survive on innovation...

After the "popping of the e-bubble" the last few years have been a tad hard for many businesses. Huge losses, unemployment (not so much in the UK) and a renewed focus on core activities have not made for the most innovative of environments. Now in 2004/05, with profits recovering, the next two challenges for business are innovation for growth and operational effectiveness for decreasing marginal costs and customer satisfaction.

"What if" is an innovation consultancy who offer a set of steps and practical ideas of how to enhance innovation in your business. This book is the follow up to "What If" (this is an improvement in layout, but you don't need both books). The innovation stages are great and it helped me to understand at a high level where my current team are strong and weak, but I think it is the practical nature of the ideas, tools and methods that is the strength of this book.

I really like the different ideas for enabling creative thinking - random connections, opposites, physical trials, focused "hothousing"...each will help you to advance from the normal set of brainstormed ideas that your workshops probably generate at the moment - how many of them couldn't anyone in your industry think of?

What if is a consultancy as well and it is possible that I might get to work with them sometime soon - I am really looking forward to trying out with the experts some of these techniques.

Mind expanding stuff when applied to your eveyday problems - might even help you enjoy your work more - now wouldn't that be a thing!

Title : Born to Win: Transactional Analysis with Gestalt Experiments
Author : Muriel James
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Possibly the best Self-Help book ever!

Transactional Analysis and Gestalt may seem old hat these days but the basic priniples have stood the test of time. This book formed the basis of my own study of TA in the seventies and also enabled me to beat a long standing history of recurrent depression and stress-related illness. I now teach TA to medical professionals and, 30 years on, this is still the best book available! Last updated and revised on its 25th birthday in 1996 this really is a "must buy" for anyone interested in digging through the "psychobabble" to the core of what makes people, including you, tick.
