Title : Goals! How to Get Everything You Want - Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible
Author : Brian Tracy
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : ..........and Finally

....at last I really do think I've found the book I've been looking for if you're reading this thinking will "this one" help "me" achieve my aims at getting my life on the move to becoming successful - then I say unequivocally - YES!!, this is the one for you.

I've read hundreds of so-called self-help books both modern old and Brian Tracy's "Goals" sums up ALL of the books I've ever read on the subject. It's like a hundred books all in one covering everything from Motivation, Confidence, Time Management, Self Belief Worth oh yes how to set realistic achievable Goals!

The beauty with all of these requisites for success is that we all have these qualities to one degree or another Brian inspires us by telling us that any one of these attributes is "learnable". So no matter where you find yourself today on what "may appear" to be a long road, you can start straight away.

This ought to be the very last book you buy on the subject, but before you read ( more importantly re-read) it, make sure you have a fresh note-book (preferably A4) scribe to hand. The book is jam packed with all the essential information to kick you off in the right direction the minute you start reading. If you feel you really must do some more research then there is an extensive bibliography at the back.

The book ends with a summery of the 21 successful tips in setting achieving these goals. Also there is a summery to be found at the end of each chapter for easy future reference.

Written in a modern, clear, interesting, easy readable style language. It's broken down into easily digestible chunks in such a way that makes you want to read a little bit more. You never stop learning it's never too late to start [something new].

Don't be put off or judge the book by the BOLD but plain looking unattractive cover. It's Brian's message that counts he very cleverly uses famous quotes from the Greats of the past.

Title : S.U.M.O. (Shut Up, Move On): The Straight-Talking Guide to Creating and Enjoying a Brilliant Life
Author : Paul McGee
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Great Book with Practical Advice

I just wanted to congratulate you on your SUMO book. It was a great read and by far and away the best in the self help category that I have read recently.
I coach people for a living and read a lot of these types of books and believe that many fail because they are too abstract or too difficult to put into practice. Your book, however, is full of practical things you can do straight away to start to make a difference.
I particularly liked the 'Ditch Doris Day' chapter.

Title : Getting It Done: How to Lead When You're Not in Charge
Author : Roger Fisher
Rating : 5 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Solid Advice for the Most Common Business Problem

Whenever I meet with bright, motivated business people who want to improve the world, they always complain about others in their organizations who will not cooperate in a change process. Get those reluctant people on board the progress train, and the more positive future will soon arrive. Almost never do these complainers realize that their own habits, perspective, and behavior are contributing to delaying the progress by making others oppose the initiative.

Getting It Done is a wonderful book for helping each of us see ourselves as part of the problem and part of the solution in situations when many people must cooperate. That's a first in my experience.

The book builds on that valuable perspective by suggesting what skills we each need to improve, and how we can implement a process that will lead to genuine, effective progress. That is very critical, because most improvements occur because someone has designed an effective process to ease their implementation. In new areas, by definition, there is seldom such a process. My suggestion is that you try this one if you have no other.

I also liked the way the authors went on to generalize about how lateral leadership (influencing peers) provides lessons for when you are the boss. The same lessons apply here as well. Influencing people through genuine involvement leads to both better solutions and to better implementation.

If you only read and learn to apply one book this year, Getting It Done should be that book. My reasoning is simple. If you cannot help those you work with to make successful collaborations, you and everyone around you will always operate at a low level of effectiveness. Also, your work day will be filled with stress, conflict, pressure, too much to do, and worry. That's not the way you want to live. Getting It Done can help you develop the skills to get the benefits of how all of us know and can do more than any one of us. When you are able to get that benefit from being in an enterprise, life becomes very interesting, rewarding, and meaningful. You will also feel good about living closer to your potential as a person.

Title : Lessons in Mastery: 5 Spoken Word Cds, 6 Hours
Author : Anthony Robbins
Rating : 4 Stars out of 5.
Summary : Good for the price, but leaves you wanting more

I've been a massive fan of Tony Robbins for a few years now. He's one of the most successful people in the US and has made it his life's work to motivate people to act in the way he has.
Through this set of CD's, he explains why people don't change, and lays down the steps to actively improving your life through determined focus and motivation. Why can't you quit smoking? Why isn't your diet successful? Why does your job suck? Why am I so unhappy?
These are questions everyone asks at some point, and by changing your beliefs and feelings towards given situations, you can become instantly motivated to act and improve.
Although nowhere near as thorough as his Personal Power or Get The Edge series, these CD's offer good pointers on why we shouldn't settle for second best.
